St. Mark’s Preschool uses six classrooms with twelve to fourteen children per class. Our program is planned by the director and team staff to maintain consistent activities and general format within each age group. The director conducts “group time” with each class up to twice a week. Outdoor play is encouraged unless weather does not permit, then the Fellowship Hall (“Big Room”) is used for large muscle activities.
Children participate in “Chapel Time” at least once a week in the sanctuary lead by a rotation of the Director, Pastor and various St. Mark’s staff members. Christian learning times are also scattered throughout the day. Our goal is to present Christian stories, songs and values at a very basic level. St. Mark’s Child Care’s Christian programming is nondenominational and intended to be an introduction to the Christian faith.
Preschool meets from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. With options on class days and class age groups. Students who turn 2 before Aug. 1st are eligible for our 2’s class. Students who turn 3 before Aug. 1st are eligible for our 3’s class. And students who turn 4 before Aug. 1st are eligible for our 4’s/5’s class. Class meet for 2 days (Tuesday, Thursday) 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) or all 5 days of the week.
We the staff of St. Mark’s Preschool and Child Care Ministry believe we have an ethical responsibility to provide care and education in a setting that is safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive for each child within a Christian atmosphere of love and acceptance. We are committed to supporting children’s development and learning; respecting individual differences; and helping children learn to live, play, and work cooperatively. We are also committed to promoting children’s self-awareness, competence, self-worth, resiliency, and physical well-being.
We also understand the vital importance of working with the families of our students. Families are of primary importance in a child’s development. Because the family and the early childhood practitioner have a common interest in a child’s well-being, we acknowledge a primary responsibility to bring about communication, cooperation and collaboration between the home and our Ministry in ways that enhance a child’s development.
